Applicants

If you are looking for decent, affordable housing, the Woonsocket Housing Authority may be able to help. We offer affordable apartments, rental assistance, and homeownership opportunities to eligible families.

You’ve come to the right place to learn more about our programs, eligibility, application procedures, fair housing rights, and how to check your status on the waiting list.

The WHA is not able to house families in need of emergency shelter. If you need immediate assistance, contact one of these organizations.

Fair housing rights

The public housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs have separate but very similar application procedures. You can apply to one or both programs. The WHA actually has six separate waiting lists: one for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, one for the public housing family developments and scattered sites, and one for each public housing elderly/disabled high-rise. It is a good idea to get your name on as many of these lists as possible, as that increases your opportunities for housing assistance.

Due to the high demand for affordable housing, there is usually a significant wait for public housing units and rental assistance vouchers. In fact, the WHA must periodically stop accepting applications to serve those applicants waiting for assistance.

If the WHA is currently accepting applications, you can download an application form here, pick one up at the Service Center, or request over the telephone that one be mailed to you. The purpose of the application is to gather just enough information to place your name on the waiting list.

If you have questions, please contact the Service Center at (401) 767-8000.
